NFR Round 8: Recap, Highlights and Payouts

One round record was broken twice and a World Record was matched Thursday inside the Thomas & Mack in Round 8 on Thursday night.

In the barrel racing, World No. 1 Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi started Round 8 with a 13.34-second run to break Amberleigh Moore’s round record of 13.37 seconds on the first run of the night. It only held for a few minutes as Kassie Mowry stopped the clock at 13.30 seconds to get the Go-Round win and keep the record for herself.

“Complete disbelief,” Mowry said when asked about her run. “I hardly remember any of it, I was just on go mode, I knew I had to be fast with Brittany at the top.”

In the team roping, Tyler Wade/Wesley Thorp made the sixth 3.3-second run in ProRodeo history to match the NFR and World Record. Half of the 3.3s in history have come in the Thomas & Mack with Chad Masters/Jade Corkill doing it in 2009 and Kaleb Driggers/Junior Nogueira doing it in 2017.

“I knew that steer was good, I texted Thorp before we roped and said ‘what’s your fastest time here?’ He said ‘3.6,’ I said ‘we’re going to be faster than that tonight,’” Wade said.

The other round winners were Jess Pope in bareback riding (88.5 points), Bridger Anderson in steer wrestling (3.3 seconds), Brody Cress, Zeke Thurston and Sage Newman in saddle bronc riding (87.5 points each), Hunter Herrin in tie-down roping (7.4 seconds), and Tristen Hutchings in bull riding (89 points).
