Round 1 of the NFR has come and gone. After the first performance, there is plenty to talk about as the World Standings saw some major changes. Here are your news and notes from night one in Las Vegas.

  • Nick Guy made the biggest leap after night one. Guy took the round with a 3.8-second run and jumped from No. 15 in the World to ninth. His season earnings have jumped to $116,935.

  • NFR Rookie Tristen Hutchings took the first round of his NFR career on opening night, going 90.5 points. Hutchings mentioned momentum after his performance and how important that was to him. Over the last 13 rides of the 2022 regular season, he went 9 of 13 and averaged over 86 points per ride, earning over $22,000 during the stretch. The round win moved him into the No. 4 spot in the Bull Riding World Standings.

  • Kaycee Feild is back at it in Las Vegas. Feild entered the NFR in fifth place in the PRCA World Standings but wasted no time making up ground on those ahead of him. His Round 1 87.5-point ride jumped him to No. 3 in the world and within striking distance of Jess Pope who took over the No. 1 spot thanks to a second-place finish. Dating back to last year’s NFR, Pope and Feild have combined to win nine of the 11 rounds.
  • Shad Mayfield’s struggles continued at the NFR. Mayfield has not finished higher than 13th in the average at the NFR in his young career. His 2022 NFR started off rough as he failed to place after an 11.2-second run. John Douch, who came into the NFR in second place, also failed to place. Last year’s World Champion Caleb Smidt took the round and is now No. 2 in the World and is $25,079 out of first place.
