NFR 2020 Tie-Down Roping Breakdown

With a more than substantial lead heading into the NFR, Shad Mayfield was thought to be the sure World Champion in the tie-down roping. But 10 days of high pressure competition produced some unexpected results.

Shad unfortunately had a rough finals, only picking up two checks, giving the other tie-down qualifiers the opportunity to narrow the gap.

Marty Yates finished second by less $300 and average winner Shane Hanchey was less than $3,000 behind him. Hunter Herrin, who narrowly made the finals, ended up in fourth with Cory Solomon, who was called up from No. 16 to compete as a replacement for an athlete who tested positive for Covid, finishing in fifth.
