The Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) and the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo (FWSSR) recently announced a new three-year agreement to bring the Wrangler WPRA National Breakaway Finals to Fort Worth, Texas, beginning in 2026.

The event, formerly known as the National Finals Breakaway Roping (NFBR) in Las Vegas, will take place Dec. 18-19 at the newly remodeled Will Rogers Coliseum, in Fort Worth, Texas.

“We are excited for this new chapter of women’s breakaway roping and to partner with the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo to continue elevating this championship event,” WPRA President Heidi Schmidt said in a recent release. “The response to the event continues to grow, and moving to Fort Worth provides an opportunity to expand for contestants and fans alike.”

The WPRA National Breakaway Finals will bethe only event where competitors can earn the title of world champion breakaway roper. The top 15 competitors in the WPRA world standings following the Sept. 30 regular-season cutoff will qualify for the championship event.

FWSSR Rodeo Director Cal White said the partnership reinforces Fort Worth’s long-standing support of Western sports and women’s athletics, reflecting the FWSSR’s excitement about the event, in a recent release.

“The Will Rogers Coliseum is an ideal venue for Western sports, and we’re proud to host these elite athletes while continuing to grow the sport of breakaway roping,” White said.

The FWSSR has been recognized as a leader in women’s breakaway roping since 2020. The Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo received the 2020 WPRA Breakaway Trailblazer Year-End Award for its early support of the discipline and equal payout opportunities. Fort Worth is also home to the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame and remains at the heart of rodeo’s history and future.
