The National Western Stock Show and Rodeo Bracket One Round One kicks off with some big names coming your way and it all goes down tonight.
In the bareback riding your reigning World Champion Jess Pope matched up with Grin & Bare It of Cervi Championship Rodeo. This horse was out in Denver last year and consistently gets cowboys scores in the 80s. Also out on Night No. 1 is rookie front runner Dean Thompson on Cervi Championship Rodeo’s Fire’s Easy. Thompson currently sits No. 1 in both the World Standings and the rookie race.

Steer Wrestler Cody Devers will be making his return to Denver after an injury kept him out of the winter rodeo’s last year. He’ll be up against the likes of Blake Knowles and Tristan Martin. Round One was won with a 4.0 flat in 2022 and this year, times can be expected to be just as fast.

It will be a night loaded with team roping. Chad Masters paired up with Trey Yates while Andrew Ward and Buddy Hawkins are out along with Rhen Richard and Jeremy Buhler. Florida’s Joshua Torres will switch it up and be roping with Dylin Ahlstrom.

Sage Newman is ready to have a regular season like in 2022. The Montana cowboy’s horse for Round One is Rocky Mountain Rodeo’s Honky Tonk, a horse that was unridden in the previous season. Canada’s Koby Wanchuk drew Naughty By Nature of the Cervi Brothers who bucked in Denver last year.

Shane Hanchey is out in the tie-down roping as well as Ryan Jarrett. Jarrett won Round One in 2022 with a 7.1 second run that he would cash in for over $3,000 before he would make his way through to the Final Round. Hanchey would also go on to the Final Round. Night No. 1 of tie-down will be tough competition.

In the barrel racing Megan McLeod-Sprague and Jamie Olsen are both out with Abby Phillips and Acey Pinkston also in the draw. Denver’s barrel race is always fast and these ladies will be in the bracket to set the bar.

In the bull riding, Josh Frost has matched up with the Cervi Brother’s Jack Hammer who Clayton savage rode for 79.5 points. Lukasey Morris will also be out on Keep Talkin pf Cervi Brother’s, a bull that Colten Fritzlan covered for 89 points in Houston.
