National Finals Rodeo 2023 Round 1 Breakdown: Bull Riding with Don Gay

The 2023 National Finals Rodeo’s First Round of bull riding was full of excitement has nine qualified rides landed on the board while it also had a moment of question when front runner Stetson Wright favored his injured leg.

“Well, we don’t really have anything to add specifically to that. Obviously he’s hurt and he’s going to try his best to tough it out, but you know, like Butch said, it doesn’t really look good but I talked to Cody Wright on my way out and he said ‘Oh, he’s going to be okay’ so they’re thinking positive,” Don Gay said.

As for the cowboys that made the whistle, it was no surprise that Sage Kimzey made the list. An 82.5 on Big Stone Rodeo Inc’s Dirty Dave was good enough for a sixth-place tie.

Gay says that Kimzey is one of two of the best bull riders but is Wright is out, that makes Kimzey the best there is.

It was Ky Hamilton who took the Go-Round win and he sits No. 2 in the World with his work cut out for him over these next nine rounds.
