Most Memorable Moments of 2020: Bullfighter Robert “Blue” Jeanes Retires

Veteran bull fighter Robert “Blue” Jeanes, announced in January that the 2020 season would be his last in the arena, and after the Guymon Pioneer Days this past August, he hung up his overalls after 24 years.

“I’m hitting some milestones at a lot of the good rodeos I’ve worked,” Jeanes told ProRodeo.com back in January. “I’m 20 years at Arcadia (Fla.), 20 years at Pasadena (Texas), 15 years at Corpus Christi (Texas) and 15 years at Beaumont (Texas). I’ve seen bullfighters who stay on too long and past their prime and felt they should have gone out while they were still on top. I fought bulls really good all year last year and I’m 45 years old and I’m hitting all these milestones and I’m still fighting bulls good, but I would rather go on top. I don’t want to have people say that guy used to be good.”

Following his final performance in Guymon, Blue said, “It was as good as I could have expected it to be.”
