Manny Egusquiza and Korey Koontz were the fastest in the Short Round at the Bob Feist Invitational to power themselves to a first place finish at the Lazy E Arena.
The pair was 7.16 seconds in the Short Round and 46.48 on six in the aggregate. Each earned $75,000 for their win.
“I really can’t even describe it, I mean this is a big day, it’s big money. Very prestigious, tough conditions, the whole deal,” Koontz said. “I can’t even describe the feeling of how happy I am for Manny and myself. We were kind of the old guys anyway.......This goes definitely at the top of my long career.”
“It’s a dream come true,” Egusquiza added. “It’s a long, drawn out day. But it’s way worth it.”
Koontz’s horse Remix was named the heel horse of the BFI.
Andrew Ward and Buddy Hawkins were second with an aggregate of 48.34, Clay Tryan and Jake Long, finished third, turning a total time of 49.76. Finally, Clint Summers and Ross Ashford rounded out the Top 4. Other notable finishes at the BFI included Coleman Proctor/Logan Medlin in seventh and Jeff Flenniken/ Shay Carroll in 15th.
