Lukasey Morris was the only cowboy to cover two bulls at the San Antonio Xtreme Bulls. Going for 84.5 points on Stockyards ProRodeo’s Assault & Battery in the First Round landed him in the Short Round where he covered Cervi Championship Rodeo’s Gangster Rock for 78 points to be the Champion.
“He was looking at the back end when I called for him and then he couldn’t really decide which way he wanted to go out, but I just kept telling myself ‘Just keep riding him’ and it just worked out,” Morris said about his Short Round bull, Gangster Rock.
Compared to his 2022 season, Morris is playing catch up this year, but the more than $15,000 he added to his 2023 total should go a long way.
“This rodeo was pretty good to me last year. I made the Short Round and fell off but hoping for a different story this year and we’re just going to keep doing the same thing, just ride the right shoulder and keep my hand closed,” he said.
Jeff Askey was 87.5 points in the Long Round to finish second in the event and Stetson Wright was third thanks to an 87-point Long Round ride.
Morris heads into the San Antonio Semifinals next where he is hoping to cash in again.
