Looking Back at the Life of Jimmy Ross Powers

Pro Rodeo has lost a legend. Jimmy Powers, also known as “Silver” or “Pops”, passed away on May 15th in San Antonio, Texas at the age of 79.

Jimmy made a huge impact on many members of the rodeo community including his dear friends, Boyd Polhamus and Bob Tallman.

“Jimmy Powers, there are good men that are buried everyday all around the world and then occasionally, there are days that you bury a great man . . . Boyd and I owe him more than any other man in the rodeo business”, Bob says.

Jimmy is best known for producing AQHA World Champion Steer Wrestling Horses, Yellow Dog and Bad Motorscooter, as well as hazing at the National Finals Rodeo along side some of the most iconic cowboys in rodeo history.

Jimmy made a great impact while serving as a National Finals Rodeo Committee Member for 36 years, as well as the Director and President of the Texas Circuit for 12 years.

His legacy lives on through the many people that he helped and loved throughout his life.
