If you blinked, you might have missed Loni Kay Yates and Nellie setting a new arena record in Weatherford, Texas. With a blazing fast time of 16.76 seconds, Yates left the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Frontier Days and PRCA Rodeo as their champion.
“She usually makes some mistakes along the way and tonight she did not make one and when she turned the third I was like, okay she’s rolling. And she did, I was pretty impressed with her time,” she said about Nellie.
After a disappointing breakaway run, Yates came into the barrel racing with a clear head and it worked out perfectly. If you ask Yates, she says that Nellie knew what she did. It was a big moment that Yates’ family got to see firsthand.
