Leighton Berry had a long road to the title in San Antonio. Berry failed to advance out of the Semifinal Round which meant he would need to win the Wild Card Round before locking up a spot in the Finals. He would do just that, going 88.5 points which secured his spot in the Finals later that night.
In the Finals, Berry was matched up with Frontier Rodeo’s Gunfire. Berry took advantage of the matchup by tying the arena record at 93 points for the win.
“I don’t even know what to say, I have to thank God for putting me in this position and my family and all my sponsors to help me get to this point. I was meant to have that horse I was meant to be here today.”
Berry was concise after the win and how he viewed it.
“Hard earned. I had to get on two today.”
Berry beat out Keenan Hayes’ 90.5-point ride to take the title and jumped to sixth in the PRCA World Standings.
