Ky Hamilton Rides Two Bulls, Wins Round 7 After Clearing Concussion Protocol

It was an unlikely scene inside the Thomas & Mack on Wednesday as Ky Hamilton not only competed in both Rounds 6 and 7, but covered both of his bulls and won Round 7.

Just hours after being knocked out during his Round 5 ride and suffering a concussion and a broken rib, Hamilton returned to action in Round 6 to cover Love the Grind’s Bouchon for 85.5 points.

The main course, however, was Round 7, with the crowd back at full strength. Hamilton got possibly the loudest applause of the entire rodeo when he rode Alberta Prime Devil’s Advocate for 88 points in the evening performance to win $99,053 due to ground money.

“That’s why I always wanted to do this sport, for moments like that,” Hamilton said of the reaction to his ride. “My best friend (Stetson Wright) on the back of the chutes cheering me on and fellow Australian Damian Brennan (winning a round the same night), it’s awesome, it’s why I do this.”

Hamilton now leads the next closest competing bull rider, Josh Frost, by about $223,000, he also has two bull lead in the NFR Average as he closes in on his first Gold Buckle.
