Kimes Ranch to Host $1 Million Breakaway Roping Thanksgiving Weekend

Breakaway roping continues to grow as Kimes Ranch lauches a history making event that will take place in Scottsdale, Arizona

Alongside long time roping event producer Chris Neal, Kimes Ranch is set to host the first ever $1 Million Breakaway in Scottsdale, Arizona over Thanksgiving weekend.

“Well, I mean, it just makes sense for us. Chris has done a great job with his youth events and bringing up that next generation and with the breakaway roping being the fastest growing event in the rodeo scene right now, it just makes sense for us to be a part of it and really nurture those girls,” Kimes Racnh Owner and Founder Amanda Kimes said.

With breakaway roping growing at an exponential rate, Kimes Director of Marketing Lindsay Perraton says that this is a chance for breakaway ropers to have their shot on a big stage.

“The goal is, everybody wants that feeling at Thomas & Mack, right, and those girls deserve that feeling too,” she said. “And so for us, doing what we can to get them on that main stage and working with PRCA, we know they have limitations right now and so we said ‘what else can we do.’”

The Top 15 cowgirls from the WPRA World Standings are automatically in and there are qualifiers in place to fill the rest of the spots.

The first qualifier will take place in conjunction with Oklahoma’s Richest on Oct. 18-20 and anyone can enter.

The Top 20 from each of the three rounds there, along with the Top 20 in the Aggregate will advance to a Semifinals that will be in Scottsdale.

On Nov. 27, there will be a last chance qualifier in Scottsdale that is currently limited to 250 entries. Ten from each Go-Round and the Aggregate will add another 40 ladies to the field.

There will also be a buyback round for five more spots.

Automatically seeded in the Semifinals will be Nos. 11-15 in the WPRA World Standings, which means here will be 130 ladies in the Semifinals.

Fifteen total will advance to the 10-Round, $1 Million Breakaway Finals, where they will join the Top 10 ladies in the World. This makes a total of 25 breakaway ropers in the Finals.
