Keyshawn Whitehorse is not just riding bulls—he’s carrying on a legacy. A proud member of the Navajo Nation, the now-professional bull rider grew up knowing exactly what he wanted to do. One day, as a kid, he saw bull riding on TV, pointed to the screen, and said, “I want to do that!” That moment turned into a mission.
“It was my calling,” he says.
Today, Whitehorse is fighting for a PBR World Title, ranked No. 10 in the PBR World Standings heading into Championship Weekend. But he’s riding with more than just talent — tradition, respect, and faith fuel every moment in the arena.
Before every ride, Whitehorse takes time to pray. First in the locker room, then again with his team, and once more behind the chutes when he says a prayer for the animal. For Whitehorse, showing respect for the animals he competes alongside is just as important as the ride itself.
“You don’t work against them — you have to work with them and respect the animal.”
Whitehorse’s goals are clear.
“I want to be the best I can be. I want to be a World Champion and achieve more success than I have now. I want to reach the highest level of all bull riders — not just as a Native American, but among the best in the world.”
The PBR World Finals will continue on May 17-18 at AT&T Stadium. Tune in to the Preshow on The Cowboy Channel at 8:30PM EST
