Justin Sportsmedicine Updates Us on Trey Benton III at Rodeo Austin

During Monday night’s performance in Austin, bull rider Trey Benton III was taken out of the arena after sustaining an injury during his ride.

Travis Chipman, Program Manager for Justin Sportsmedicine, took us through what exactly happened.

“Trey came out, bull came around and he ended up in the well, lost his balance, hit heads with the bull which knocked him unconscious. He landed on the ground, the bull danced around him, stepped on him once, grazed him a couple times and the bull fighters were able to get the bull out of the way and we were able to go in and access him,” Chipman said.

It was a rough accident but fortunately Benton was conscious and moving around once transported outside of the arena. This accident showed the importance of both the helmet and the vest that most bull riders wear.

“The helmet helps protect them, it can’t prevent all injuries but it does help protect them and the vest as well, helps lessen the severity of some injuries,” Chipman said.

Benton only sustained a concussion as a result of the accident. Chipman’s treatment plan calls for Benton to rest and be symptom free before starting any workouts or getting on another bull.

Overall, the injuries in Austin have been minimal and Benton is doing well.
