Steer wrestler Justin Shaffer is set to take on a new challenge as he prepares to compete at the Cinch Timed Event Championship at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Shaffer earned his spot in the prestigious event after being selected to replace tie down roper John Douch, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Coming off his second appearance at the National Finals Rodeo, Shaffer is shifting his focus to becoming as well rounded as possible for the multi discipline format of the Timed Event Championship. Growing up with a rope in his hand, he feels comfortable stepping into events beyond steer wrestling.
In preparation, Shaffer has been practicing his tie down roping, team roping, and steer tripping while working alongside fellow timed event competitors, including Wesley Thorp. Training with experienced all around cowboys and securing solid horsepower have been key parts of his preparation as he gets ready to compete against the best in the timed event arena.
