The Jr. NFR is kicking off on Monday down in the Fort Worth Stockyards. The 2021 Jr. NFR begins with Barrel Racing and Breakaway roping culminating in a tournament-style rodeo throughout the week.
On Thursday, July 1, the top 50 will perform, followed by the semi-finals on Friday, July 2, and finally the shootout round on Saturday, July 3. The cowboys and cowgirls are competing for a $10,000 check and a championship belt buckle.
PRCA Director of Athlete Development and Welfare, Anthony Bartkowski joined Western Sports Round-Up to talk about the importance of the Jr. NFR.
“Youth is really important. We have to start building our foundation and start creating relationships with the next generation of contestants, our contract personnel, even our stock contractors.”
This year there will be 534 entries including more than 100 in both Breakaway Roping and Barrel Racing.
