John Mitchell and Janie Wood are Headed into the NCHA Kit Kat Sugar Super Stakes Semifinals

John Mitchell is used to having success inside the walls of Will Rogers Coliseum. This year, is is having that same success on Janie Wood, a mare that he has won on before.

“She’s a special horse. She’s really smart about a cow, she’s fast to boot, she can control a cow within seconds of getting it cut so it just gives her that special look and she sort of covers all bases real wuick,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell has career earnings of almost $5 million but this mare is different. They prioritize keeping her in a routine that keeps her calm and collected under pressure.

Mitchell is extremely familiar with the lineage that makes up Janie Wood. She is by Stevie Rey Von and out of Junie Wood, a mare that Mitchell also had a large amount of success on and the entire family tree is full of strong comeptitors.

Mitchell and Janie Wood won the first go of the four-year-old open with a 225 and they went on the end up in a tie for first after the second go. The Semifinals of the NCHA Kit Kat Sugar Super Stakes takes place March 31 and Mitchell and Janie Wood will be competing again.
