Reigning World Champion Bareback Rider Jess Pope and National Finals Rodeo Saddle Bronc Sage Newman know how to keep things fun.
Newman and his traveling partners call it stachin’ and bashin’ as they go up and down the road. What started as fun, turned into them giving to charity and now, Newman’s signature look is a mustache. You can catch Kolby Wanchuk, Tanner Butner and Chase Brooks sporting a mustache as well. Pope might jump in their rig whenever he needs to but you won’t see him with a mustache.
One thing Newman and Pope have in common is their ranching roots.
“It gives you the work ethic and just growing up around it, you know, it’s just kind of part of you. So the rodeo world is a lot like that and the people in it are all your family and it’s a great way to grow up really,” Newman said.
Pope is on his fourth NFR after a tough season battling injuries and not drawing the best. He’s getting back to the place we’re used to seeing him as he currently sits third in the Average.
Newman is on his third NFR and after a really good season, he is getting closer to a Gold Buckle as he sits No. 1 in the World after Round 3.
