Jeff Askey set the bar at Gooding Rodeo during the first performance when he covered Macza Pro Rodeo’s Burnt Oil for 88.5 points.
“That was a really good bull that Willy Macza brought. I didn’t know much about him, he said he was going to be around to the right, might go back to the left but Willy’s got a good set of bulls and I just kept hustling, made it work,” Askey said.
The five-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier has had an excellent 2023 season where he has been consistent all year long and he chalks it up to just having fun.
“You get older, you kind of just appreciate the journey and just enjoy doing it because you start to see that light at the end of the tunnel and you want to get all you can while you’re here,” he said.
Askey sits No. 7 in the PRCA World Standings and his win in Gooding added almost $6,000 to his name.
