Injury Update: Dawson Hay

In 2018, Dawson Hay was named the PRCA | Resistol Rookie of the Year in the saddle bronc riding. In 2019, he made it to his first NFR, where he placed in five rounds and won Round 6, and finished seventh overall in the World Standings.

Dawson, son of saddle bronc rider Rod Hay, is currently ranked seventh in the 2020 Standings and was looking to have a profitable Cowboy Christmas. Unfortunately, his Fourth of July run was complicated by a rough buck off in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, at the Black Hills Roundup on Friday night. When thrown from the horse Glass Heart, Hay hit the ground hard, with his neck being the first thing to make contact.

As a precaution, Hay was taken to the hospital in Spearfish, South Dakota, by ambulance to get checked for possible head injuries. Luckily, traveling partner Jake Watson was with them to accompany Hay to the hospital.

We still have no word on official test results but Black Hills Roundup chairman Keith Anderson says that when departing, Hay was coherent and responding.
