Hunter Cure Won His Unicorn & He is the 2022 Rodeo Houston Steer Wrestling Champion

Hunter Cure has qualified for Rodeo Houston’s Championship Round and made it to the Shootout Round multiple times. This past Saturday, he was able to close the deal and get the big win. Cure went 5.0 in the Championship Round to be fourth and lock in his spot in the Shootout. He got the job done in the Shootout in 4.0 seconds and has now added the Rodeo Houston Steer Wrestling Champion to his long list of accomplishments.

The two-time World Champion and five-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier called Houston his unicorn that he was never able to capture.

“Being able to come here towards the end of my career and get the victory is oh so sweet, I’ve got my family right up here watching me and I’m one of the most blessed men around,” Cure said.

Having family around is part of what makes rodeo great and Cure’s daughter has always been apart of his rodeo career in some way. In 2019, she left Cure a note in his hat. At Rodeo Houston, she kept it up.

“She always has some way that she wants to be involved… today she helped carry the water bucket for the horses into the arena so I can’t thank the city of Houston and all of the committees for all that they do for us. They treat us like champions when we come here whether we win, lose or draw and I appreciate it,” Cure said.

Cure had tough competition in the Shootout. It came down to Tanner Brunner, Timmy Sparing and Jacob Talley. After a great run to start it off, Cure is your 2022 Rodeo Houston Steer Wrestling Champion.
