In 1990, a VHS tape from Walt Woodard opened up a whole new world for heeling technique.
It was one of the very first instructional videos for team roping ever created and in the 1990s, just about every team roper got their hands on it and to this day, it still has an impact on the roping world.
Originally, Woodard wanted to set the price of his video at between $50 and $75, but wasn’t sure. He said a friend and roping partner, Bud Corwin, wanted him to give it away so as many team ropers as possible could see it. Eventually, they settled on around $19 to make it more affordable.
Now, Woodard and his son Travis run roping schools all over the country. Walt marvels at how guys use video and several other tools at their disposal to rope better and how fast the sport has gotten.
Woodard went to the Wrangler NFR 20 times and won two World Championships.
