The Horse Heaven Roundup in Kennewick, Washington saw a bareback rider get his sixth win in this month alone, the reigning World Champion in steer wrestling take a big piece of the pie, a record-setting win in the tie-down roping and more.
Richmond Champion has been to the NFR each of the last seven seasons he has been healthy and he looks poised to return to an eighth as his August surge continued in Washington. He was 167.5 points on two, with 85 of them coming in the Finals on Bridwell Pro Rodeo’s Mary. He is No. 13 in the PRCA World Standings and has won about $45,000 this month.
In steer wrestling, Tyler Waguespack split Rounds 1 and 2 and finished second in the Finals to split the win Average with Kodie Jang at 12.3 seconds on three. Waguespack is now No. 2 in the world as he looks for a three-peat and he has further trimmed into Dalton Massey’s lead. Jang was 4.2 in the Short Round after going 3.9 in Round 1 and 4.2 in Round 2.
World No. 1 Riley Webb continued to thrill in the tie-down roping as his Short Round time of 6.6 seconds broke the arena record. He was 24.7 seconds on three to win the rodeo by a full second over World No. 2 Haven Meged. Webb won about $16,000 for the weekend and is over $245,000 for the year.
Other winners were Dawson Graham/Dillon Graham in team roping (17.3 seconds on three), Damian Brennan in saddle bronc riding (172.5 points on two), Jordon Briggs in barrel racing (33.87 seconds on two) and TJ Gray in bull riding (87 points on one).
