Home of Champions Rodeo: Preview, Format and How to Watch

Both Montana Playoff Rodeos are over the Fourth of July

Red Lodge 2024

The Red Lodge Home of Champions Rodeo begins on July 2 and features all of the biggest names in rodeo. Winners of the rodeo will take home over $3,500 for their efforts in Montana. This event is one of two PRCA Playoff Series Rodeos in Montana and both are this week.

The Home of Champions Rodeo is a simple as they come in terms of crowning a champion. The fastest run and the highest score get the win.

Bareback Riding is loaded with talent on the opening night of the rodeo. World No. 1 and the 2023 Home of Champions winner Keenan Hayes competes alongside No. 3 Leighton Berry, No. 5 Rocker Steiner as well as Cole Reiner, Cole Franks and Caleb Bennett.

No. 1 Tie-Down Roper Shad Mayfield is coming off a win at the Reno Rodeo and looks to keep his record-setting pace going in Red Lodge. Mayfield will compete on Wednesday as he looks to add to his season total of $162,933.

Josh Frost has been on a tear of late and will compete on Wednesday too. Frost has three wins in his last four rides including a $12,000 win at the Cody Stampede Xtreme Bulls on June 30. Frost is chasing Creek Young who holds the No. 1 spot in the standings. Young competes during Performance 3 on Thursday.

World No. 1 in barrel racing, Leslie Smalygo, has a slim $3,000 lead over both Wenda Johnson and Emily Beisel. Smalygo and Wenda Johnson both competed in Slack while Emily Beisel will compete in the Performance 3 on Thursday.
