High Desert Stampede: Recap, Highlights and Payouts

BY BRETT NIERENGARTEN @PRORODEOBRETT

The High Desert Stampede was the first NFR Playoff Rodeo in the Northwest in 2023 and it produced some final day fireworks, fast tie-down times and the biggest win of a 22-year-old bull rider’s career.

Let’s start with that fourth and final day of action, where two roughstock cowboy claimed titles. Taylor Broussard was 86.5 points to upend the 84.5-point mark Orin Larsen set on Wednesday night and Cash Wilson was 87 points to nip Tanner Butner by a half-point. The win was already Broussard’s eighth of the 2023 season and with a $4,759 payday, it was his most profitable.

In tie-down roping, there were 10 times faster than 8.4, which won last year’s rodeo. Leading the way was the No. 1 man in the world, Riley Webb, with a 7.2. There were five times in the 7s in the 2023 edition of the High Desert Stampede after none the previous two years.

In bull riding, Jesse Hopper made the highest marked ride of his career with 88.5 points to collect a check of $4,840, which was also the highest of his career. The win moved him from No. 47 to No. 38 in the world.

The rodeo in Redmond, Oregon paid out a total of more than $160,000 with the winners getting between $3,000 and $6,000 depending on the event. The other champions were Bridger Anderson in steer wrestling (4.2 seconds), Jr. Dees/Ross Ashford in team roping (5.1 seconds), Rachelle Riggers in barrel racing (16.20 seconds) and a tie between Danielle Lowman and Tiffany Shieck in breakaway roping (1.8 seconds).
