High Desert Stampede: Recap, Highlights and Payouts

BY BRETT NIERENGARTEN

The PRCA rodeo circuit made its way west to Redmond, Oregon for the High Desert Stampede, an NFR Playoff Series event that paid over $140,000.

World No. 1 Jess Pope set the pace in the bareback riding in the first performance and no one was able to catch him. Pope already has three NFR Playoff Series wins this year in Redmond, Houston and Arcadia.

In steer wrestling and team roping, all it took was 4.9 and 5.0 second runs respectively to win the one-head rodeo. Josh Garner was the steer wrestling champion and Jeff Flenniken/Jake Minor won the team roping.

Saddle bronc riding was won by a cowboy that made his first NFR in 2021, Layton Green. Green rode Bridwell Pro Rodeo’s Beaver Bend for 87 points and the Canadian currently sits No. 6 in the PRCA World Standings.

In tie-down roping, Cody Jones and Roger Nonella shared the win as both cowboys were 8.4 seconds.

In barrel racing, Kacey Gartner was the winner while competing at her first rodeo in more than five months. Gartner had not run since the Columbia River Circuit Finals on Oct. 23.

Finally, only four bull riders made the whistle for the entire rodeo and Reid Oftedahl won it with 80 points on Bridwell’s Snow Cougar in the first performance.
