Saddle Bronc Rider Gus Gaillard is currently sitting at the top of the Resistol Rookie standings, with $51,069 won – almost $23,000 more than the second-place bronc rider.
Just over this past weekend alone, Gaillard placed at four rodeos and picked up over $16,000 in prize money.
“It was dang sure a good week for me,” Gaillard noted. “I went to four rodeos and I ended up pulling four check at them so it was pretty dang fun and took advantage of the horses that I had so its always good when you do that.”
Gaillard has found much success in the bronc riding, winning the permit challenge last year as well as doing well at college rodeos but for him, having a solid foundation is what he accredits his success.
“I’ve had a lot of help. My dad was a bronc rider, he’s taught me everything that I know about it and just being around the right type of guys. I grew up in bronc riding country in the panhandle of Texas and this is all I’ve ever wanted to do. I’ve been getting on saddle bronc steers since I was 12 years old every week and then moved on to horses. I want to be a great bronc rider and now’s my time to do it so I’m trying to take advantage of it,” Gaillaird said.
