They say The Golden Spike Rodeo is the oldest rodeo in Utah, and it doesn’t fail to impress. The 94th installment from Tremonton was no different as it paid out about $4,000 to each of the winners of the one-head rodeo.
Dean Thompson edged out a pair of Top 5 cowboys, Jess Pope and Caleb Bennett, to win the bareback riding with 83 points.
In steer wrestling, Baylor Roche was 3.5 seconds to win the rodeo and collect $4,130. Dakota Eldridge and Clayton Hass split second at 3.8.
In team roping, two of the most prolific pairs of the last three years split the win. Erich Rogers/Paden Bray and Andrew Ward/Buddy Hawkins both stopped the clock at 4.3 seconds. Rogers/Bray won the 2020 NFR Average and Ward/Hawkins succeeded them in 2021.
Saddle bronc riding was another tie and like team roping, it was between a pair of decorated cowboys. Chase Brooks, who has finished in the Top 10 four consecutive years, matched 85.5-point rides with Sage Newman, who recently set a new PRCA Saddle Bronc Riding regular season earnings record with more than $233,000.
Tyler Milligan won the tie-down roping giving him wins at the two highest paying rodeos of the weekend, the other being the Horse Heaven Round-Up in Washington.
Michelle Alley also won two rodeos over the weekend as the barrel racer was victorious in Tremonton as well as the Kitsap Stampede. Both wins paid more than $4,000.
And in bull riding, Jordan Spears left no doubt by going for 90 on Bar T Rodeo’s Angels Landing to win by four points over Dalan Duncan.
