From Qualifier to Round 1 Win, Rope Smith Takes Advantage of Opportunity at National Western

The steer wrestler won Bracket 1, Round 1 after barely making it to Denver

Rookie Rope Smith took the long route to the National Western, earning his spot through a qualifier. After a 4.3-second run in Round 1, Smith has put himself in position to advance to the Semifinals with another strong run.

Smith won the opening round, and says he knew he had nothing to lose so he went for it.

“Honestly I was super nervous so I figured I would just try and relax and go make the best run I could and see how it played out.”

Smith says he has a simple strategy moving forward, “Take a deep breath and take it one run at a time.”
