Fresh Off a CNFR Title, Tyler Calhoun Charges Into His Resistol Rookie Year

The Texas tie-down roper is leading the Resistol Rookie Standings and climbing the PRCA World Standings with hopes of making the NFR.

Tyler Calhoun, from Richards, Texas, is making waves in his rookie year in the tie-down roping—and he’s doing it fast.

Just days after claiming the 2025 College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) tie-down title with a 38.7-second total on four head, Calhoun packed up and headed straight to the Reno Rodeo. His sights are already set on an even bigger goal.

“Keep the ball rolling, and hopefully it leads to the NFR this year,” he said.

Calhoun is currently leading the Resistol Rookie of the Year Standings and sits No. 34 in the PRCA World Standings. With less than $20,000 separating him from the top 15, a spot at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is within reach.

He credits his college coaches for their continued support, both in and out of the arena. While pursuing a Sports Management degree, Calhoun is also learning how to manage the demands of life on the road.

“Learning how to schedule rodeos and take time out of every day—time management has been the biggest contender,” he said.

With three-time World Champion Shad Mayfield in his corner helping with entries and guidance, Calhoun’s rookie campaign is off to a red-hot start heading into the summer run.
