Wenda Johnson made her first California loop of her career and when the curtain closed on the second big rodeo of that run, Johnson was the Clovis Rodeo Barrel Racing Champion and the Female Athlete of the Week.

Johnson and her horse, Mac, found their Cali stride in Clovis. The duo shut the clock off at 16.88 seconds in the First Round to win it by almost one tenth of a second. They came back in the Second Round to win again, this time by almost two tenths of a second with a time of 16.68 seconds.

This gave Johnson and Mac a huge lead going into the Short Go. For their third and final time of the Clovis Rodeo, Johnson and Mac eased up with plenty of time to spare to be a 17.19. Although this placed fourth in the Go-Round, it won them the Average by over half a second. Johnson left California with another rodeo win on her resume.

The Oklahoma cowgirl now sits as the No. 9 ranked barrel racer in the WPRA World Standings with over $33,300 to her name after running at just 10 rodeos. There are still big paydays to be had with the summer run coming up quick but it is looking like Johnson is setting herself up for a fourth National Finals Rodeo qualification.
