Kassie Mowry and her horse Famous Ladies Man, AKA Emmitt, took The Calgary Stampede by storm to make Mowry the Female Athlete of the Week.
The duo was unbelievable in Pool B competing against some of the toughest ladies in professional rodeo including Emily Miller-Beisel, Ivy Saebens and previous Calgary Stampede Champion Wenda Johnson.
Finishing in the Top 3 in 5-of-6 rounds, Mowry and Emmitt were undeniably fast. They were their fastest in Round 4 when they broke the arena record with a smoking 16.86 second run. They followed it up by continuing to be under 17 seconds in the two runs that followed on Sunday.
On Championship Sunday, there was a 10-Man Round Standing and a Showdown Round left between Mowry and a Calgary Stampede Championship. In the 10-Man, Mowry and Emmitt ran a 16.95 to tie for a first place finish beside Dona Kay Rule and Valor. In the Championship Showdown the duo stayed consistent and cinched their Calgary Stampede Championship with a 16.977 second run.
Mowry knew to never count Emmitt out, he is a powerhouse capable of winning it all. After their success in Calgary, Mowry’s mind might be on making a run for the Top 15 and a chance at another National Finals Rodeo. The Texas cowgirl is now in the Top 10 in the WPRA Standings and is in position to advance to her third NFR.
