Oklahoma will be overflowing with cowboys and rodeo fans this weekend with the Cornhusker Classic American Rope Horse Futurity being held in Ardmore and the prestigious Bob Feist invitational taking place in Guthrie.
Duke Dixon, owner of Dixon Flowers Roping Horses, talks about the contenders he will have at each event and the importance of horse power when looking to earn a check as a team roper — especially at an event like the BFI, where 140 teams that include some of the biggest names in the sport will compete over six days.
“I don’t know where else you could go to watch a team roping like that — longer barrier, good cattle, everyone ropes good,” says Dixon. “So from the horse, which is what I’m into, I mean, you’re going to need a good horse to get the run of six steer there.”
At the BFI, 2X NFR qualifier and Dixon Flowers head trainer Billie Jack Saebens will be riding DT Sugar Chex Whiz, aka Sugar, who is not only an AQHA World Champion but was also voted the 2019 PRCA | Purina Heel Horse of the Year.
“He’s really excited, and she’s ready,” says Dixon.
Saebens will be heeling for 3X NFR qualifier Tyler Wade. For a look at the 2020 BFI lineup, click here.
