Dona Kay Rule reacts to her exemption to RFD-TV’s The American

Barrel racer Dona Kay Rule is heading to RFD-TV’s The American after all.

Rule, who qualified for the Wrangler NFR in 2020 but was not allowed to compete do to a positive COVID-19 test, was announced as recipient of an exemption to the Richest Weekend in Western Sports on Tuesday night.

“Things happen for a reason, I’m certainly incredibly grateful for the invitation,” she said. “When I got the call, I was plenty excited.”

Two-time World Champion tie-down roper Caleb Smidt was the other exemption. Both have the option of accepting the invite straight to the finals at AT&T Stadium or trying to qualify through the semi-finals, which would make them eligible for the $1 million prize for first, rather than $100,000.
