It was a dark and stormy night last night in Spanish Fork, Utah — so much so, in fact, that the Fiesta Days Rodeo had to be delayed due to heavy rain and lightning, and by the time the skies cleared enough for athletes to safely compete, the arena had turned to sticky mud and pockets of puddles.
But the far from optimal conditions didn’t slow down Zack Jongbloed, at least not in the bull dogging. Jongbloed, who following his interview was a no time in the tie-down roping, threw one down in the mud in just 4.2 seconds, walking away with the fastest time of the night AND the lead in the average in the steer wrestling.
“You’ve just kind of gotta ex out all the mud and everything and just do your job at the end of the day,” Jongbloed says, “and it worked out.”
He’s sitting in the No. 1 spot with a time of 8.2 seconds on two after being 4 flat in the slack round.
