World Champion Dave Appleton was a part of the transition period where the National Finals Rodeo moved from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to the bright lights of Las Vegas, Nevada.
“Well Vegas took it to a new level,” Appleton said.
With Benny Binion behind the NFR in Las Vegas, more money, free hotels and more it was a game changer for NFR qualifiers and spectators alike.
“The town embraced us, everybody embraced us, the shows. Vegas went country,” he said.
