The Darby Extreme Barebacks is set to take place June 3 and 4. It was this very event last year where Rocker Steiner matched up with C5 Rodeo’s legendary bronc, Virgil, to set a new world record of 95 points.
With the Top 20 in the PRCA World Standings set to ride on Sunday, Saturday will consist of a qualifier that has close to 50 contestants entered. Only the Top 10 will move on to Sunday to compete for their piece of the $50,000 purse.
“Saturday, on paper, is set up to be just as good as Sunday, if not better. There’s a lot of great guys in there already that have NFR qualifications, world titles, Jess Pope is one of them, the reigning World Champ… Between the guys and the horses that I think we’ve got set aside for this it’s going to be action packed both days, nonstop,” Caleb Bennett, PRCA Bareback Riding Director and 11-time NFR qualifier, said.
J Bar J, Pickett Pro Rodeo, Calgary Stampede and Legends Pro Rodeo will be the four stock contractors in Montana this weekend. J Bar J’s Sparky Dreesen said that he worked extensively with Bennett to narrow down the horsepower to the best of the best, a task that was not easy.
“It’s going to be as star packed on the livestock as it is on the contestant side of it,” Dreesen said.
The action all starts with the Qualifier Round at 4:00 PM EST on Saturday while Sunday’s performance is at 9:00 PM EST on The Cowboy Channel and The Cowboy Channel Plus.
