Cowboy Christmas: Top Earners and Standings Updates

They don’t call it Cowboy Christmas for nothing. Many athletes won big this past week — positively impacting their bank accounts and their ranks in the World Standings.

Steve Kenyon takes a look at those who were most successful in each event and how the standings were affected by the Fourth of July run.

For the first year ever, breakaway roping was featured at six different Cowboy Christmas rodeos, offering female ropers chances at some substantial prize money, and Shelby Boisjoli cashed in more than $9,000. Both winning more than $13,000 throughout the week, saddle bronc rider Zeke Thurston went from No. 20 to No. 12 and barrel racer Jill Wilson moved into the third spot, pushing ahead of reigning World Champion Hailey Kinsel. And while Ryan Jarrett was able to climb his way from No. 19 to No. 13, putting him in NFR contention, Tuf Cooper was big winner in the tie-down roping, pocketing more than $14,000 and taking the No.1 spot in the All-Around race.
