With a total payout of about $370,000, the Cody Stampede is the richest one-header in the PRCA.
Not only that, it is the second highest paying rodeo that ends on July 4 and the second highest paying rodeo in the entire Cowboy State behind Cheyenne Frontier Days.
Let’s run through this year’s champions.
In bareback riding, three-time World Champion Tim O’Connell was the top man, getting it done on Frontier Rodeo’s Breaking News. His 89 points were half point better than World No. 1 Keenan Hayes.
Steer wrestling belonged to Blake Knowles, a five-time NFR qualifier but first time winner in 2023. He was the only cowboy in the 3s for the rodeo.
Reigning NFR Average Champions Tanner Tomlinson/Patrick Smith finished first in team roping with a winning time of 4.6 seconds. It was the pair’s second win and first PRCA Playoff Series win of the season.
In saddle bronc riding, World No. 1 Sage Newman claimed his most lucrative of four rodeo wins over the 4th of July. In Cody, his 89-point ride on Frontier’s Miss Ellie earned him $9,700.
King Pickett won the tie-down roping with a 7.4-second run, one of the fastest we have seen all season in PRCA Playoff Series Rodeo. He was six tenths faster than Jake Pratt’s second place run.
In barrel racing, Paige Jones made a 17.20-second to win the rodeo by more than a tenth of a second over reigning World Champion Hailey Kinsel.
In bull riding, Stetson Wright made one of two 90-point rides over the 4th of July to win $10,000 as part of a weekend in which he overtook Ky Hamilton for the No. 1 ranking. Wright was also 91 to win the Oakley Independence Day Rodeo.
And in breakaway roping, Martha Angelone got it done with a 2 flat to win by three tenths, which was the same amount of time between No. 2 and No. 12 at the rodeo.
