Clovis Rodeo: Preview, Format, and What to Watch For

The Clovis Rodeo is back for its 109th installment. The Rodeo pays out over $200,000 to its competitors and features some of the best rodeo athletes in the world.

Format

The rodeo is a simple one to follow. In roughstock events, it is a one header with the highest score taking home the title. In 2022 it took 88 points in Bareback, 90 in Saddle Bronc, and 91 in Bull Riding to win.

In timed events, there are three rounds to open the rodeo and then a finals round. All four rounds are added together to find the champion of the rodeo.

What to Watch For

Performance 1 (April 27)

The No.1 rookie in Bareback Riding, Keenan Hayes, highlights an impressive field that features Dean Thompson, Taylor Broussard, and Mason Clements.

In Bull Riding there are several big names, none bigger than Sage Kimzey. Riding alongside Kimzey, Jeff Askey, Josh Frost, and Braden Richardson all ride.

Performance 2 (April 28)

Tie Down Roping is sure to be an exciting one in performance two. The World No. 1 Riley Webb is slated to rope and he will have his work cut out for him as No. 3 in the world Westyn Hughes is slated to go as well.

Saddle Bronc Riding features 2022 World Champion Zeke Thurston alongside Dawson Hay, Spencer and Jesse Wright, and Wyatt Casper.

Performance 3 (April 29)

Performance three features Rusty, Ryder, and Statler Wright competing in Saddle Bronc Riding.

Steer wrestling is sure to be fast as Ty Erickson competes against the likes of KD Struxness, Stan Branco, Jace Melbvin, and Stetson Jorgensen.

Performance 4 (April 30)

Bareback Riding will have plenty of stars for the final performance with World Champ Jess Pope competing with Tanner Aus, Kade Sonnier, Caleb Bennett, Jacek Frost, and RC Landingham.
