World Champion Barrel Racer Jordon Briggs has placed strategy at the forefront of her mind when making her summer schedule. She’s keeping it light, getting her 25 rodeos in and getting home for good by the middle of August.
Going to the pay window at three rodeos in the same state certainly makes that strategy easier to execute and Briggs’ success in Utah earned her Circle Y WPRA Athlete of the Week honors.
Briggs returned to defend her title at the Utah Days of ’47 Rodeo where she advanced from Performance 4 and finished out the Medal Round with a 16.91-second run to claim the Silver Medal in Salt Lake City. She placed second behind Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi’s 16.79-second run. The finish earned Briggs $7,500 towards the WPRA World Standings.
Briggs claimed the No. 3 spot at the Odgen Pioneer Days with a run of 17.11 seconds and matched that position in Spanish Fork as she tied for third with a 17.12.
Briggs is clearly looking to stay fresh for the 2023 NFR. She has been to around 20 rodeos this year, which is the least of any cowgirl inside the Top 15.
Sitting at No. 2 in the World Standings, behind Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi, Briggs and her trusty equine partner Rollo are gunning for another Gold Buckle as they claim the WPRA Athlete of the Week Title.
