Cheyanne McCartney is heating up as the summer run is starting to kick off. The 3X National Finals Breakaway qualifier laid down three nearly identical runs to win the Calgary Breakaway Qualifier with a 6.8-second time on three head, ahead of 159 other ropers.
The win adds to what McCartney describes as one of the most rewarding months of her career, with multiple solid paydays and growing confidence throughout the season.
“With rodeo, there are a lot of ups and downs,” she said. “You’ve just got to take them as they come. When you get on a roll, you keep roping and enjoy it.”
When she’s not on the road, McCartney and her husband stay busy training horses at home. She credits that routine for keeping her sharp and ready to compete at a high level.
“At this point, after running so many calves, a lot of it is mental,” she said. “But you still have to keep practicing at home so you’re ready when it’s time to go.”
With the season heating up, McCartney’s focus and preparation are paying off, putting her in a prime position for another strong year in breakaway roping.
