Before the final round on Sunday, horsemanship expert Wade Black joined our Tailgate Party live show to talk about his experience throughout the Road to the Horse.
Black, who qualified for the Championship competition by winning the last Road to the Horse Wild Card in 2019 (RTTH was canceled in 2020) and went on to when the 2021 World Champion title, looks back on his performance in the first two rounds, discussing the challenges he faced and his approach to working with any horse. He calls it the “Training Trifecta,” which consists of three components: task completion, temperament, and foundation.
Black accumulated 252 points on day one and 237 day two, coming out ahead of fellow contestants Craig Cameron and Ken McNabb in both rounds. Heading into the final day in first overall with a total of 489 points, he finished the obstacles round with a total score of 1,417 — 44 points in front of second place finisher McNabb — becoming the 2021 Road to the Horse World Champion.
