Alberta native Carter Sandberg was a fixture atop Resistol Rookie Roundup leaderboards all weekend.

He took second in the Long Round with 77 and followed it up with a win in the eight-man Shootout to advance to the Finals, where he had a date with Pete Carr Pro Rodeo’s Dirty Jacket, the 2014 and 2015 PRCA Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year.

Sandberg handled Dirty Jacket, who delivered a stock score of 41 points, and was marked 79 overall to win the rodeo.

“Man I’d sure say (my heart was pounding was harder than usual), what a blessing to get on such a good bucking horse,” he said. “God kept me healthy throughout the season so far, just very thankful for the opportunity to be here.”

The other three finalists were Tyler Pruitt (78 points), Zac Dallas (77 points) and Cauy Masters (bucked off).
