The 98th edition of the Caldwell Night Rodeo concluded with an exciting Short Round on Saturday.
Tim O’Connell got the party started right away in the bareback riding as he rode for 89.5 points when he needed 88.5 for the win. Afterward, O’Connell brought fans to their feet by taking his victory lap on foot and doing the Macarena in the arena.
In steer wrestling, Tanner Bruner placed in all three rounds to win the rodeo with a time of 13.0 seconds on three head. Riley Duvall was second at 13.4.
Team roping was won by Jr. Dees/Levi Lord, who also won the Short Round. They were 17.8 seconds on three.
Dawson Hay won the saddle bronc riding title thanks to a 91-point ride in the Short Round to bring his two-head total to 177.5 points, 3.5 clear of fellow Canadian Zeke Thurston, who also rode for 91 in the Short Round.
Macon Murphy placed in all three rounds to win the tie-down roping and all three of runs were faster between 7.8 and 8.9 seconds.
In the barrel racing, Margo Crowther placed in the Top 4 in each round to win the rodeo. There were also some notable round winners with Hailey Kinsel winning Round 1, Paige Jones taking Round 2 and Dona Kay Rule winning the Finals. Jones and Rule tied for the fastest run of the rodeo at 17.03 seconds.
Finally, bull riding was the only one-head event of the rodeo and Stetson Wright won it style with a whopping 93 points on Powder River’s Domino.
