Breakaway Roping Phenom Madison Outhier Conquers Obstacles to Bounce Back

Madison Outhier is setting herself up for gold.

Madison Outhier became a regular on rodeo’s biggest stages when she made history as the first-ever American Rodeo Breakaway Champion at 16 years old. She has remained a pivotal piece of the breakaway puzzle as it continues to be rodeo’s fastest growing event.

“It kick-started my career and since then I’ve won the Resistol Rookie of the Year in 2021 and I’ve been a two-time Women’s Rodeo World Champion,” Outhier said.

While on track to make her first National Finals Breakaway Roping, Outhier was sidelined when a freak accident landed her in the hospital with seven broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a lacerated liver, and a punctured and collapsed lung.

“It’s crazy how quick your muscle goes and how hard it is to regain it back. But eight weeks, I was on a horse,” she said.

Outhier is back on track for the NFBR as she has already earned more this season than she had when her 2024 season came to an end.

Along with NFBR, Outhier has her sights set on another WRWC World title by way of AT&T Stadium.
