Breakaway roper Josie Conner talks 2021 success and upcoming match against Shelby Boisjoli

Josie Conner joined Western Sports Round-Up on Monday night to talk about Oklahoma’s Richest, a roping event that will take place at the Lazy E Arena from Oct. 15-17.

Conner will compete in a match roping against Shelby Boisjoli, the No. 1 breakaway roper in the 2021 WRPA World Standings and is excited that the $7,500 up for grabs is the same amount of money being given to the winner of the tie-down roping match between Shad Mayfield and Haven Meged.

“I think this match roping is huge for breakaway roping and I’m really excited to match against Shelby, she’s one of the best breakaway ropers in the world,” she said. “I hope we make it good watching.”

This is Conner’s first official match, but you can expect to see her at plenty of other big ropings moving forward. She filled her WPRA permit at a jackpot in Cowtown Coliseum right after turning 18 earlier in the month.
