It was an electric night of rodeo last night at Dickies Arena, determining who among the third crop of competitors would advance to semi-finals of the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo’s ProRodeo Tournament.
In the rough stock, bareback rider Austin Foss and saddle bronc rider Ryder Wright rode back-to-back wins on Monday and Tuesday to qualify for the semifinals, while Gavin Michel finished at the top of the bull riding leaderboard after being the only one to last eight seconds in the first performance.
Michel ended up being the biggest money winner in Bracket 3 of the tournament-format ProRodeo, earning $4,400 for his successful ride Monday night and another $1,026 on Tuesday when he placed third in the second performance.
Foss, a four-time Wrangler NFR qualifier from Terrebonne, Oregon, won Monday’s bareback round with an 88-point ride, then came back Tuesday to score 86.5 points on Andrews Rodeo’s horse Rylee’s Raisin Cane. That earned him a total of $3,520 and a berth in one of two semifinals, being held February 6 and 7.
In the saddle bronc, Wright was even more consistent. The world champion from the famous rodeo family based in Milford, Utah, put up a score of 89 points to win Monday’s round, following that with an 88-point ride on Andrews Rodeo’s Cat Walk on Tuesday. He’s moving on to the semi-finals with $3,520 in total earnings.
Two-time world champion barrel racer Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi boosted her lead in the WPRA standings by winning both rounds of barrel racing. Her $3,520 in total winnings advances her to the semis, where she and team roping husband Garrett Tonizzi will both compete.
The top two in each event advance to the semi-finals while third place has the chance to compete in a wildcard round. Moving on from Bracket 3:
